Why do people not like certain gross patterns?

have you seen a pomegranate cut in half? its gross!! i start screaming eww eww

but i feel like everyone has this, there is a certain pattern that grosses out everyone, it might be different to everyone but it will bother them

can someone explain psychologically and from neurological perspective why this is the case?

I've never seen a pomegranate cut in half so I googled it. I can see why you think it's gross, because it looks like fish eggs, at least that's what sprung to mind first. Maybe any small dots remind you of something like that.

Certain patterns (such as small dots repeated over and over) can be visually exhausting to look at. Like when some people get headaches from spirals and those optical illusion pictures.
Reply:I don't have this problem. BUT small patterns are based on high-frequency gradients visually, maybe this is what disturbs you if you have bad high spatial frequency vision maybe it troubles you to discriminate the pattern - or very good high spatial vision so you dislike the intensity of the pattern? High and low spatial contrasts are probably separated in visual system (topographical organsisation)
