What's a healthy snack that can get me through the day?

My problem specifically is blood sugar and energy. I'm getting tested for diabetes soon, but for the sake of the question, just assume that I'm hypoglycemic, not diabetic.

Today at 9:30 or so I ate two packets of oatmeal, a banana, three soy sausages, and drank a glass of 100% pomegranate juice and a cup of unsweetened green tea.

By 12:00 I was shaking with low blood sugar.

I ate a cereal bar, which took off the edge, but it didn't stop me from wanting to run to the cafe for a bagel in between classes. (My 30 pound backpack DID stop me.)

What can I eat throughout the day that will keep my energy level up without excess sugars or fats? Something like soy nuts, dry cereal, what?

You need protein. Grab some nuts or seeds. I prefer almonds, or peanuts, or sunflower seeds. Your body can metabolise the protein kind of like a 'slow release sugar' - so you don't get the ups and downs like you would with carbs.
Reply:Fruits, apples oranges, bannanas, veggies, carrots celery, borcolli`
Reply:Just eat continuously but have nuts. Or try Snack-a-Jacks. They are really nice and keep you filled up because they contain rice wheat.
Reply:dried fruits and berries, small amounts of nuts, low GI foods like oatcakes and houmous.
Reply:Rice Cakes
Reply:Try to steer yourself away from the banana and the pomegranate juice in the morning. Too much sugar. The oatmeal is good and the soy sausages are good. Maybe an apple instead of the banana. A nice snack would be nuts or sunflower seeds or celery with natural peanut butter (no sugar). If you start off your day with enough protein it will keep you going a lot longer. For lunch stay away from white bread if you are having a sandwich get yourself some whole grain wheat. Better to have a piece of chicken and a salad. Another good choice would be a hard boiled egg for snack or lunch. Also carry some string cheese with you. No more than 1 or 2 oz of cheese a day though. I hope you aren't diabetic but if you are then you will need to eat more like this anyway. Keep hydrated and drink water, not juice or soda.
