One of the philippino nurses at work always bring a fruit salad to pot lucks, but there's a fruit in there that I just can't put my finger on. It's round, small, bright red (think maraschino cherry red) and slighty chewy. When I asked her what it was called, she replied "pom fruit."
Has anyone ever heard of this? I can't find anything on Google.

The closest thing I could find is "ma-khaam pom fruit". The English name is Indian Gooseberry. Wikipedia has an article about it.
