What's the deal with Pomegranates?

I know how trends happen in the social world, but how do they happen in the business world, where money is playing an issue? Pomegranates are in everything right now, and I want to know why. Can anyone think of other trends that industry throws on us, and does anyone know where all this stuff starts?

What%26#039;s the deal with Pomegranates?
Where does it start. Well, the seeds (pun intended) go back to an NIH research study on particular chemicals which protected the body from cancers. Poms had this ingredient, so they mix the report with the product (btw, the Pom wasn%26#039;t how the body got the ingredients, minor detail), and marketing 101 takes it to the next level.

I%26#039;ve been around long enough to know that there are hundreds of these that go around - look at the % of Pom juice in these drinks , 2%? Right. I%26#039;m not saying it%26#039;s bad, but ANY product which claims to cure ALL ailments? Even penicillin doesn%26#039;t do that.

It all starts with someone wanting to make a buck, and finding some published research story which will %26quot;back%26quot; their claim. Think eggs, they were good, they were bad, now they%26#039;re back to being good for you, but the egg itself hasn%26#039;t changed. Everyone thought that Perdue chicken was the best because it was a %26quot;healthy%26quot; yellow - turns out that they fed the chickens yellow food to turn the skin yellow - it%26#039;s just marketing.
Reply:The pomegranate isn%26#039;t really trendy, just seems more accessible. It%26#039;s a somewhat exotic fruit that people enjoy... it just hasn%26#039;t been widely available now with the gourmet supermarket popping up everywhere, offering more unusual and unique choices.

Also, POM, a pomegrante juice is widely available. Pomegranate juice is not really great, but the packaging is marketing genius. That probably started whatever trend you are referring to.
