Pomegranates, whats the best way to tell if there ripe, and ready to eat?

When they split open on their own, they are ripe. If you have to cut them open, then they are not ready. Wait until the cracks on the peel are running from the stem to the base, that%26#039;s when they have the most flavor.

I like them big. I once saw a lovely lady who had nice pomegranates, so I asked her if I could feel them. She said sure. I liked how they felt, so I went ahead and got the whole package.
Reply:If there is signs of cracking/spliting or if they are realy realy realy red!
Reply:when they%26#039;re really red. also you don%26#039;t want them too light, that means the seeds are drying up.

cut in half, hold cut side down over a bowl, and whack the skin with the back of a wooden spoon. the seeds will fall out.

(i grew up on pomegranites, and just learned that trick the other week on iron chef, lol!)
Reply:make sure they don%26#039;t have any green spots on...more ripe if they have a little brown tint to them. And make sure the fuzzy stuff in the flower thing at the top of them is dried out and brown. I have about 20 pomegranite trees in my yard. I LOVE %26#039;em. My fav fruit.
