What is the best and easiest way to peel a pomegranate?

It depends on what I want to do with the seeds, whether I%26#039;m adding them as an ingredient to something else or if I%26#039;m just enjoying a delicious snack.

If I%26#039;m just eating the fruit, I sit down with a pom, a large bowl and a napkin. Gently squeeze the pomegranate to find softish spot in the rind, then push until the rind breaks. The pom is full of juicy red seeds tightly packed in pockets separated by a sort of pithy white membrane. The rind and membrane are not very tasty...the seeds are what you%26#039;re after. As you pull the pockets apart, the seeds will start to fall in the bowl. Keep removing pieces of rind and membrane and enjoy the seeds. Some pockets of seeds will require more digging to get them all out. Be careful, though...the juice from the seeds will stain just about everything it touches. That%26#039;s what the napkin is for.

If you want to add the seeds as an ingredient to something else, here%26#039;s a slightly faster way to get them. Fill your sink or a large bowl with water. Submerge the pomegranate in the water and start pulling it apart like I described before. As you open up the pom in the water, the pieces of rind and membrane will float to the top and the seeds will sink to the bottom. After that, it%26#039;s easy to skim off the unwanted bits and discard, then scoop up those delicious red seeds from the bottom.
