What is the best way to eat a pomegranate?
You just cut in half first then proceed as follows. Hold one half in your palm with the seed part facing your palm. Then tak a heavy spoon and tap the peel part of the fruit until all the little seed pods pop out. You may want to have your hand over a bowl when doing this to catch the pods.
Reply:Open the fruit and eat seeds. this way of eating is very good for health.
Reply:Cut it in half. Squash the pulp into a drink and save the seeds, then count them.

So it%26#039;s like this. Everybody knows the age old question %26quot;how many seeds does a pomegranate have%26quot; And every little Jewish kid at Rosh Hashanah knows the answer.

Exactly 613 - parallel to the number of mitzvos or commandments of the Torah. Before it was reduced to 10.

But do they really have 613.

A Columbia University professor (likely for a statistics course) collected data by counting seeds from 206 pomegranates from all over the world.

The least number of seeds one had was 165 (an Iranian one...hmm...) and

the max number was 1370 (from one grown in the USA).

But the average number of seeds was remarkably exactly 613!

The 613 Mitzvot (Commandments) were more of a man-made tradition rather than an actual number of commandments sent down by YHWH (Yahweh). The idea originated in the Talmud which says there are both %26quot;positive%26quot; and %26quot;negative%26quot; mitzvot (do%26#039;s and don%26#039;ts) which can be divided into 365 Negative Mitzvot (to remind us not to do bad things every day of the year) plus 248 Positive Mitzvot (the number of bones in the human body - for a total of 613. In this way, we are able to obey the mitzvot with our entire body.

Similarly, the tzitzit (knotted fringes) of the tallit (prayer shawl) are also connected to the 613 commandments. Torah commentator Rashi declared that the number of knots on a tzitzit (in its Mishnaic spelling) has the value of 600. When doubled over, each tassel has eight threads and five sets of knots, which totals 13 - for a grand total of 613. This concept reminds tallit wearers of all Torah commandments.

Strange how these numbers come up in the count of pomegranate seeds.
