I used this trick recently and was pretty impressed with it.
1. Cut off both ends of the pomegranate (the top and bottom). Yes, you will hit the seeds and lose a little juice but its not near as bad.
2. Fill a large bowl with water, put pomegranate in the water and open it up under the water- Separate the sections under the water and the seeds (the good stuff) will sink to the bottom while the other stuff floats at the top. Remove as much of the stuff that is not the seed as you can.
3. Grab a strainer and pour the bowl of water and seeds in the strainer.
This does take a little bit of practice to do it fast- but its a whole lot cleaner than trying to do it any other way. Plus, for some reason you can be a little bit more rough with the pomegranate under the water.
