I got this new juice made by Tropicana, called Tropicana Pure Pomegranate and Blueberry juice. It is 100% juice but when I look on the back, it contains pomegranate and blueberry juices from concentrate. When I looked at the nutrition info, it contains only 2% of two B vitamins and 2% folic acid, no vitamin A or C or anything else.
I%26#039;m just wondering, why are these vitamin levels so low? It%26#039;s for an 8 oz serving. Is it because the juices are from concentrate? Or are there other vitamins/benefits not listed? I got this because I thought it would be healthy, but I think I should have checked the nutrition info first.
Vitamins in juice?
Many naturalists say don%26#039;t drink juice because you are not getting the benefits from the whole fruit
Reply:i always try to make sure the nutrients in my juice and vitamins are natural. There are many food supplements that are contrived to give you the illusion of it%26#039;s healthy ingredients, but around half of the nutrients passes throught the body without being digested.
Reply:It%26#039;s always a good idea to read the labels first. People buy what they THINK is 100% juice, but it actually says 100% Vitamin C, with only about 27% juice! .... and, even the juices that are 100% juice, may actually have a major proportion of APPLE juice, even if it%26#039;s supposed to be other juices .... You will generally get the purest and best quality juices in the refrigerated section; but alot of them are also %26quot;drink%26quot;, not juice...... I%26#039;ve found that get really pure, unadulterated juice, you usually have to settle for orange or grapefruit:)
Reply:Unsweetened Blueberry has the remarkable ability to balance blood sugar -- if the blood sugar is high it brings it down and vice versa! Pomegranate is remarkably high in antioxidants which guard your body from free radicals which cause cancer and other degenerative diseases. The juice of these two is beneficial for those reasons. Vitamin C is available practically everywhere. It is in green leafys, citrus, tomatoes etc. On the other hand Antioxidants are not as widely available or naturally occuring.
Reply:Lots of sugar, hardly any vitamins.
Reply:It can be made from concentrate and still be called 100% juice. All it means is that nothing else (i.e. sugar, etc) was added.
Pomegranate and blueberries are not exactly good sources of vitamin C. But they are a great source of antioxidants. If you are looking for vitamin C, I would recommend looking for acerola cherry juice or camu camu fruit juice. Mango juice is a great source of vitamin A, as is carrot.
Another possibility is that the juice was heat-pasteurized, destroying the vitamin C.

Berry Me Deeply martini
This very suave and fun martini is very non-alcoholic. I suppose that the fruit could potentially ferment if you made the drink and let it sit for a few months, but who the heck would do that?
Ingredients
* 2 ounces of blueberry juice.
* 1 ounce of pomegranate juice.
* 6 frozen blueberries.
* 2 ounces of fresh raspberries.
* 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
The mix
* Pour your blueberry and pomegranate juice into a shaker 1/2 full with cracked ice.
* Shake for a full minute, and then let your shaker stand for another minute.
* Rub two raspberries (smashing them) around the bowls of two frozen martini glasses.
* Pour one tablespoon into each glass, swirl and pour out.
* Strain your juices into each glass.
* Smoooooooth.
Cosmo-Not
Ingredients
* 6 ounces of freshly squeezed and very cold orange juice.
* 2 ounces of freshly squeezed and very cold tangerine juice.
* 2 orange rind twists.
* 2 very, very thin orange slices.
* 1 lime cut in half.
* 3 ounces of cranberry juice.
* 1 ounce of pomegranate juice.
* 4 drops of vanilla extract.
* 1 ounce of seltzer water.
The mix
* Add all of your juices and vanilla extract to a shaker 1/2 full with cracked ice.
* Shake for a full minute.
* Squeeze in the juice of your lime and swirl the shaker ten times.
* Strain into 2 large, frozed martini glasses.
* Top each glass with an orange slice and one orange twist.
* Slowly pour one tablespoon of seltzer into each glass (over the orange).
* Serve them up and watch the smiles.
Fizz-Tini
This non-alcoholic drink looks very cool and is fit the bill for any sober, social drinker. There is a bit of advanced preperation, but as a well prepared host, you should keep a bit of this on hand.
Ingredients
* 1/2 cup of peeled, fresh ginger.
* 2 cups of water.
* 1/4 cup of cane sugar.
* 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
* 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
* 4 ounces of seltzer water.
* 2 thin lemon slices.
The mix
* Bring your water to a boil and add the ginger.
* Slowly stir in the sugar and vanilla, and reduce the heat to a simmer for fifteen minutes.
* Strain and cool the liquid in the refrigerator.
* Pour three ounces of your ginger water and your seltzer into a shaker 3/4 full with cracked ice.
* Stir the mixture for two full minutes.
* Strain the elixir into two frozen martini glasses.
* Add one tablespoon of lemon juice to each glass.
* Each glass gets a lemon slice on the rim.
Mint Edition Non-alcoholic Mojito
A minty, refreshing and cool looking martini.
Ingredients
* 1/4 cup of fresh spearmint leaves.
* 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice.
* 1/2 teaspoon of powdered sugar.
* 8 ounces of cold tea (black tea works just fine).
The mix
* Crush your mint leaves.
* Rub a pinch of mint on the inside of the bowl of two frozen martini glasses.
* Pour your tea and lime juice into a shake 1/2 full of cracked ice.
* Add your crushed mint leaves.
* Shake gently, in a diagonal motion for a full minute.
* Add your powdered sugar and shake for another full minute.
* Strain into your martini glasses.
* If you are truly chic, you%26#039;%26#039;d add one of our Cocktail Monkeys to the edge of the glasses!
Reply:Use pomegranate juice, a good quality orange juice (no pulp), I%26#039;d add some freshly squeezed lime juice too. It will give it that %26quot;pop%26quot; that alcohol gives it.
Have some club soda or seltzer on hand. You might find that the flavor is just too intense. Pouring in a bit of club soda will make it lighter (pour it in after shaking, though!).
This will be a fairly tart beverage. If you want something sweeter, pour in a little Sprite after shaking. Or let people choose themselves.
Reply:if you need to remove alcohol from the drink then its not worth making. stick to coke and water

Why are people so turned off by vegetarian food?
I am vegetarian and a lot of people ask me how I survive without eating meat. First of all, I am vegetarian by choice. For me, I have access to a lot of good vegetarian food. My mother is vegetarian and she cooks very well. Her food is very good and she makes all kinds, indian, italian, chinese, mediterannian. I love all vegetables and tofu is my favorite! I also eat a wide variety of exotic fruit, such as pomegranate.
However my friend hates all of that. She doesn%26#039;t like tofu or pomegranate. All because she tried them before in a way that is disgusting. A tofu shake, sounds gross. Pomegranate juice, I%26#039;ve never tried it but I love the fruit. She probably wont try these ever again because of bad experiences with it.
That is what I blame. People are so turned off by vegetarian food because they try it once and it wasn%26#039;t a good source to try it from if you understand what I mean.
Please comment on what the other reasons are.
Why are people so turned off by vegetarian food?
Some meaters just don%26#039;t like vegetarians.
Actually, there isn%26#039;t a meater in the world that doesn%26#039;t like vegetarian foods. We eat them all the time, they%26#039;re called %26quot;side dishes%26quot;. We eat veges and beans etc......we just don%26#039;t eat the faux stuff, because we have the real deal.
Reply:You are probably right. I think a lot of people think that being a vegetarian means that you eat nothing but veggies, rice and tofu.
Reply:well it%26#039;s pretty silly since %26#039;vegetarian food%26#039; has some kind of different connotation for people than just the fact of eating some vegetables or fruit, or bread or pasta! i can eat plenty of foods without meat - but i won%26#039;t necessarily eat healthy!
Reply:I have no idea why people stay completely away from the food. I think soy, tofu, and mushroom based products are absolutely delicious! The biggest reason they don%26#039;t like it is because they don%26#039;t give it a chance.
Reply:There are a lot of people out there that prefer meat with every meal - and scoff at vegetarian food being rabbit food but the fact that there are literally thousands of food combinations made with vegies and from all different cultures as well. But the fact is these stade people just cant get out of their comfort zone and cannot try new things.
Reply:im not a vegeterian, but i luv that fake chicken ya%26#039;ll got it%26#039;s like really good, i have a friend who is a vegetarian and i used to think she was crazy but she let me try some of the stuff she ate and alot of it taste pretty good, i think we jus all like meat, i mean somehting we can sink our teeth into, but everyone%26#039;s different
Reply:I see it as being your choice, and i respect that. It is no different than your friend making the choice to eat meat, in which you must also respect. I personally love meat. i hunt and fish, but on the other end of the spectrum, i love veggies and fruits as well( not all but very many). If, you are a vegetarian because of health reasons, there are many ways to eat healthy while also eating meat. Depending on what type of meat you eat, how often and how big of a serving plays a large role on its health benefits. I also think that many people dont have access to somebody (such as your mother) who can cook great vegetarian meals while also having the time to do it. The bottom line is that everyone has their own choice in foods and just because you like tofu, doesnt mean everybody does or has to, and you can%26#039;t get upset about it either.
Reply:Honestly, I don%26#039;t think most people are turned off by vegetarian food. Almost everyone I know will have a slice of plain cheese pizza or spaghetti with tomato sauce now and then. I think a lot of meat eaters may be closed minded about tofu or other %26quot;weird%26quot; vegetarian foods, but many eat %26quot;accidentally%26quot; vegetarian dishes pretty regularly.
I went to lunch one day this summer with five girlfriends. I was the only vegetarian but there was only one meat dish ordered between the six of us. And these ladies know full well that I have no issue with them eating meat in my presence. It just so happens that some of the vegetarian dishes sounded very appetizing.
Reply:Vegetarianism is the practice of a diet that excludes all animal flesh, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, and slaughter by-products.[1]
There are several variants of the diet, some of which also exclude eggs and/or some products produced from animal labor such as dairy products and honey. Veganism, for example, excludes all animal products from diet and in some definitions from attire also,[2] whether or not the production of clothing or items has involved the actual death of an animal (dairy, eggs, honey, wool, silk, down feathers, etc.).
A generic term for both vegetarianism and veganism as well as for similar diets is %26quot;Plant-based diets%26quot;.[4]
The reasons for choosing vegetarianism may be related to moral, religious, cultural, ethical, aesthetic, environmental, social, economic, political, taste, or health concerns.
Reply:Many people eat with their eyes, and if they don%26#039;t like what they see they will say they don%26#039;t like it
You could put a plate of food in front of me and I will taste it.
If the taste is wrong for me I will tell you why and ask if there are other ways to prepare it.
I have never tried tofu but if I can make it to my taste I have no problem putting it on my plate.

Reply:meat stimulates the enzymes in ur saliva to break up more food and it leaves u the feeling that u hav eaten more n it is actually tastier.
vegetables ...healthy as they are dont seem to stimulate this kind of a feeling unless it is cooked along with some other content that activates ur taste-buds
technically its all in the subconcious mind. wat u c is what u believe. if u try sum gud vegetarian products u wud probably hav a better attitude 2 it
Reply:They are incapable of thinking critically, and so it has never occurred to them that the majority of what they eat IS %26quot;vegetarian food%26quot;.
Reply:I%26#039;m a vegetarian and I think that people assume that it is disgusting because it is simply not meat ! I always thought tofu was weird until I tried some that was prepared correctly. Once people are exposed to different types of food they will adjust.
Vegetarians can eat everything that is not meat- that leaves alot of food open to try! So many! Not everyone has to eat %26quot;mock-meats%26quot; such as veggie burgers and the like. (I have tried some and liked them and disliked a few) I think that because alot of people have always eaten meat they assume that nothing else cannot compare.(wrong) I think that one has to try many different dishes then they can decide for themselves whether they like %26quot;veg food%26quot;. To try two veg dishies and proclaim that they are all disgusting is very ignorant.
Reply:I love vegetarian food. Meat is gross and it always made me feel bad when I ate it (I mean like sick, a little guilty too though). I%26#039;m way happier since I%26#039;ve become a vegetarian. My little brother who%26#039;s twelve recently became a vegetarian and he likes it too, his favourite foods were hamburgers before he went vegetarian too, and he became one of his own volition. Yay vegetarian food! :0) Anyway, I think what a lot of people don%26#039;t realize for some reason is that they actually do like some vegetarian food, it%26#039;s not like they eat meat with everything, is it? You%26#039;re right too though, a lot of people try one vegetarian thing (like a tofu shake), don%26#039;t like it and get totally turned off of vegetarian dishes because of one bad vegetarian food they tried. I%26#039;m sure there are things with meat in it that she doesn%26#039;t like either.
Reply:I think some people just love meat too much to give it up. I respect vegetarians and their choices, but I couldn%26#039;t give up meat even though I love many vegetarian dishes and have vegetarian cookbooks.
Reply:I%26#039;ve always wondered this myself and I%26#039;m a meat eater.
There are some vegetarian foods that I like a lot.
Pasta, for one. Granted, I%26#039;ve grown up with it.
Tofu, when prepared right, is great. Especially in Miso Soup.
It probably comes down to bad experiences.
I used to drink Milk with EVERY dinner meal I ate at home. Cereal in the morning, and milk and cookies sometime as well.
then I downed a glass of spoiled milk after having Milk and cookies.
I haven%26#039;t been able to have milk since, even when its fresh it tastes bad to me.
Mock meats can be very good, but I HATE Gardenburger varity ones.
Boca plain is great, though. I found that out when my parents made some of those for themselves to try it, and the %26quot;real%26quot; burgers had some crap spice on them. I still like real burgers, but crappy spice is crappy spice.
Reply:Mock meats and meatless meals are so different from what people are used to, especially if they are raised as a meat eater.
Most of the time it takes an %26quot;acquired%26quot; taste but this isn%26#039;t always the case. I believe if someone is really adamant about adopting this type of lifestyle, they will find a way to make it work and get through any hurdle that may come along.
Also, vegetarians don%26#039;t just have to eat %26quot;pro-vegetarian%26quot; type food found at the grocery store - you know like items from Morningstar Farms, Gardenburger, etc. We can eat *anything* we want MINUS the meat.

In addition;
A lot of times what people try to do is to replace the meat or %26quot;pretend%26quot; to eat meat, like making burger patties out of ground mushrooms or shaping tofu to look like a turkey. If you%26#039;re not going to eat meat why do you want to pretend to eat meat? People are disappointed when the pretend meat doesn%26#039;t taste like meat. I really think that%26#039;s a big one.
Also, we%26#039;re supposed to eat meat and we like meat. It%26#039;s unwise to eliminate an entire food group from your diet unless you%26#039;re very careful about the it.

Check out http://maketheconnection.co.nr for more information on a vegetarian/vegan diet!
Reply:I enjoy vegetarian food; it%26#039;s how it is prepared that is essential.
Reply:We have been taught since we are chlidren that all our meals need to contain meat as the main ingrediant. Its simply brain washing.....
People need to get over that and realize all that meat is unhealthy and unnatural.

It%26#039;s really very sad.
Reply:I think you answered your own question.
In addition;

Song of Solomon!?
Don%26#039;t you think that an anti-sex position is a rather silly position for your sect to take when the biblical book %26quot;Song of Solomon%26quot; is a piece of erotic poetry? (For instance, in Song of Solomon 8:2, the bridegroom proposes to %26quot;drink of spiced wine of the juice of the pomegranate.%26quot; The pomegranate was a symbol of the female genitalia, and the %26quot;spiced wine%26quot; represented menstrual blood).
Song of Solomon!?
Yes, and Ezekiel is most erotic also.
The Bible Ezekiel 23:19-21
Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.
Mommy, what is an emission.

Reply:Why on earth would anyone think that Christians are anti-sex? God invented it, He sanctions it between 1 married man and 1 married woman. Sex is for tenderness and closeness between this man and this woman who are married. Sex is for the reproduction of children for this couple to love and teach about God and His Son Jesus.
Please understand that all Christian, married couples are supposed to have sexual intercourse. It is not lucid or dirty. God invented it!!!!.
Reply:I know exactly what you are talking about.
But I think you are miscontrueing the information. Song of Solomon is also talking about marriage. I don%26#039;t recall exactly, but either he creates the song (poetry) for the marraige, or when he is engaged to be married. He is rejoicing.
To undestand this, you need to read it in its entirety - not excerpt as you have above. It%26#039;s quite long and is like a story about this woman he wants/loves/celebrates and wants to marry.
So, it actually goes along with the idea of no sex before marriage.

Most Christians believe that Song of Solomon is for the marriage bed.
I would agree with most of your question, but I don%26#039;t think the wine is menstrual blood.
Reply:Song of Solomon
Author: various, but attributed to Solomon
Dating: completed by 400 BCE
The Song of Solomon has also been called the Song of Songs and the Canticle, constituting one of the more popular books of the Bible because of the worldly and sometimes sexual nature of some passages. The author is unknown, but it was probably finished being written sometime around 400 BCE. Despite its popularity, there was a great deal of debate about whether or not to include it in the canon. Like Esther, it simply never mentions God and doesn%26#039;t deal at all with matters like religion or law.

Can people new to fruits get diarrhea?
I have either Crohn%26#039;s, IBD or IBS. I will soon be starting an all fruit and vegetable diet to help heal my problems through natural means. Today I decided to drink about half a small bottle of Pomegranate Juice, and after looking up Pomegranate Juice, I found out its great for your system.
So an hour later...I feel it. Immediately I have watery diarrhea. So far I%26#039;ve had it twice, it may happen a few more times after I write this. I want to know that if someone who rarely ever eats fruits and vegetables, will get diarrhea because of some sort of healthy reaction or cleansing of the body? I%26#039;m kind of afraid to keep eating or drinking fruits.
Can people new to fruits get diarrhea?
Yes it can , but Its not a painful kind , because its good it is cleaning your system out.

What are substitutes for pomegranates???
Please add to your question what you are using them for so we can better answer you!
ETA: As a garnish, you can substitute any seeds, such as sesame, pumpkin, or sunflower. If you want to add red color, try currants or cranberries.
What are substitutes for pomegranates???
Studies show pomegranate juice has anti-oxidants and will help to prevent plaque build up in your arteries.
In my opinion there is no direct substitute to pomegranates but may have a place along with fish, oatmeal and olive oil as foods that will help to prevent cardiovascular disease along with a healthy lifestyle and weight control.
Reply:blueberrys could work..
depend on what you are using them for..
for a snack or dessert topping yes..
for your guacamole, no.

How do you prepare pomegranates for jelly or jam?
POMEGRANATE JELLY
10 lg. pomegranates
1 (3 oz.) pouch liquid pectin or 1 (1 3/4 to 2 oz.) box dry pectin
2 tbsp. lemon juice
6 c. sugar
To extract juice, cut crowns off pomegranates and score peel of each in several places. Immerse pomegranates, one at a time, in cool water in a large bowl; break into sections and separate seeds. Skim off floating peel and membrane; discard. Drain seeds.
In a 5- to 6-quart kettle on high heat, combine seeds and 1/2 cup water. Cover and cook until seeds are soft when pressed, about 10 minutes.
Set a colander lined with cheesecloth in a bowl. Pour in seeds and liquid. Tie cloth closed. Wearing rubber gloves, squeeze bag to extract remaining juice. Measure; you need exactly 4 cups (if amount is short, add water).
IF USING LIQUID PECTIN, combine pomegranate juice, lemon juice, and sugar in an 8- to 10-quart kettle; bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Add liquid pectin and bring to a boil that cannot be stirred down. Boil, stirring for exactly 1 minute.
IF USING DRY PECTIN, combine pomegranate juice, lemon juice, and pectin. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir in sugar and bring to a boil that cannot be stirred down; boil, stirring, exactly 2 minutes.
Pour hot jelly to within 1/4 inch of rim of hot, sterilized, 1- to 2-cup canning jars. Wipe rims and put hot lids and rings in place. Set jars on a rack in a deep kettle; add boiling water to cover. Bring to simmering; simmer 10 minutes. Cool jars on a towel for 2 days. Makes about 7 cups.
How do you prepare pomegranates for jelly or jam?
There are two basic ways to make pomegranate juice from fresh pomegranates. The first is to cut open a pomegranate and submerge it in a large bowl filled with water. Remove the seeds underwater; they will sink to the bottom while the white membrane holding them together will float. Discard the peel and membranes. Strain the seeds and put them in a blender. Pulse the blender only a few times so that the seeds are broken up. Place a mesh strainer over a bowl and pour the seed mixture through the strainer. Use a rubber spatula to help press the pulp against the strainer as to extract as much juice as possible.
The second way to juice a pomegranate is to use a juice press. I have an old fashioned press that I use. I wash the pomegranate and cut it into quarters or halves, depending on how big the pomegranate is. I then crush the sections with a press and strain the juice through a mesh strainer. I have found that this method takes half the time or less of the first method, but the flavor can be a little more bitter because you are squeezing the peel as well.

IS HE RIGHT?
IF YES, WHAT HAPPENES IF YOU EAT ONE?
Are there worms in Pomegranates?
Any fruit can have worms in it, if it has worms in it then you toss it, you don%26#039;t pick them out and then eat it.
Reply:I haven%26#039;t found so far.
Reply:Worms can get in most fruits. You look at the peeling to see if there are any little holes which means a worm. If there are any inside, cut that part out.
Reply:Posssible but why would you eat it?
Reply:No
Reply:i think he was just messing around with u dont freank out
Reply:Any fruit/vegetable has the potential to have worms in it. Pomegranates have just as much a chance as say oranges or apples do.
Reply:Worms taste good. So do grain weevils. Stop trippin, you won%26#039;t die. Vegans believe everything has a right to eat right? Well, if this omni eats the critters, so should you. They%26#039;re just trying to live B.
Reply:no,

Do people actually EAT pomegranates?
...Or are they just sold because enough people are curious and try them once before they decide that they%26#039;re not really worth the trouble...Seriously...
Do people actually EAT pomegranates?
Ha! Ha! Yes, I agree that some foods are just too much work for too little reward. This is the same reason I don%26#039;t eat hot wings or ribs. But, at least pomegranates are actually good for you. The juice is seriously expensive, but worth it if you are after the health benefits of the pomegranate and don%26#039;t want to deal with all the work.
Reply:yes and they are very good for you and delicious although it does look gross. they are high in antioxidants. i put some in a smoothie so i dont have to look at it
Reply:I buy them once every few years. They%26#039;re very good, just a royal pain in the rump to eat, because of all the seeds. Have to be careful, since the juice stains everything and doesn%26#039;t wash out... no matter how much stain stuff you use. Bummer.

Growing up in the philippines, i%26#039;ve seen and heard of %26#039;granada%26#039; but never ate it, and really knew no one who especially liked it

Can I propogate Pomegranates from stem or their seeds or are they too complicated to even try?
Poms grow so easily from seed that I don%26#039;t know why anyone would bother with cuttings. However...
Poms grow readily from either seed or cuttings. Make your cuttings with a node at each end. Strip off the leaves. Put the lower end in plain water, change the water daily, wait. You should see the first roots in about a week.
Plant seeds as you would Citrus. Get them as fresh as possible direct from the fruit, and don%26#039;t let them dry out in the meanwhile. Plant them in any light potting soil. Keep warm and moist. Wait. Pom seeds should germinate in about 5 - 7 days if conditions are good.
Can I propogate Pomegranates from stem or their seeds or are they too complicated to even try?
Propagation: The pomegranate can be raised from seed but may not come true. Cuttings root easily and plants from them bear fruit after about 3 years.
Twelve to 20 inches long cuttings should be taken in winter from mature, one-year old wood. The leaves should be removed and the cuttings treated with rooting hormone and inserted about two-thirds their length into the soil or into some other warm rooting medium.
Plants can also be air-layered but grafting is seldom successful.
Reply:They will grow from cuttings if done properly. i have 2 that i started that way. never had a seed to sprout.

I have a pomegranates seedling i started but dont know the care for it can you help and do i need more than on
This depends on what type of climate you live in.
Pomegranates typically grow in hot and tropical weather like South Asia. Need a lot of sun, water and fertile soil.
Problem is not enough sunlight and freezing tempratures in the winter.
These trees grow to about 6 to 10 feet high, so your potting options are very limited.

You PEEL %26#039;em??? Really? I run a knife along the skin, just enough to cut through it. I do that in both directions, then slowly pull it open. Peeling it is like work! LOL I do no such thing (well, not with my fruit anyway)

I have fresh pomegranates and want to make juice from them. How do I do it?
Juicing Pomegranates
There’s another way to capture that flavor: Roll the pomegranates over a countertop in every direction to loosen up the juice, make a small hole in the skin and squeeze the fruit over a bowl. %26quot;Because you’re squeezing some of the thicker pith beneath the fruit, you do get a bit of the tannic quality of the fruit,%26quot; which isn’t bad if it’s not too strong, Wemischner says.
From six nice-sized pomegranates, you can expect to get about three cups of juice, he says. It’s perishable. So drink it within hours, either straight or mixed with other fruit juices that it complements, such as apple or cherry. %26quot;I like to add as little sugar as possible, if I drink it straight. But the sugar does tend to round out the flavor a bit,%26quot; he says.
Don’t drink all that juice, though. Save some of it for other uses.
I have fresh pomegranates and want to make juice from them. How do I do it?
I have tried this juice and its just great.
Pomegranates, though delicious and extremely good for you, require a little bit of savvy to crack open and juice. The easiest way to do it, without making your kitchen look like something out of a horror film, is to slice off the top end (the part that looks like a crown), then make several shallow cuts from north to south. Once you%26#039;ve made the cuts, immerse the whole pomegranate in a bowl of water, and gently break the sections apart. Using your fingers, pull the red seeds away from the white pith. Discard everything that floats (pith and peel float; seeds sink), and drain the seeds in a colander.
The seeds are great as a garnish, or, you can make juice by putting the seeds in a blender, and then straining the resulting liquid through a sieve or cheesecloth. One pomegranate should yield about half a cup of juice. To make pomegranate molasses, bring the juice to a boil on the stovetop and simmer until thickened to the desired consistency.

Reply:I love pomegranates, I just like the taste of them. It%26#039;s good to put the fruit in a blender and make a pomegranate juice.
Reply:They taste good, but they are just too messy to deal with. When I was a kid my mom used to make me go out to the sidewalk to eat them. I would rather have a kiwi now.
Reply:no i dont
Reply:No - they are a pain and waste of valuable time to eat!
Reply:I don%26#039;t like them; not juicy enough for me, but I still recognize their appeal as passion fruit partly due to the INXS video %26quot;the one thing%26quot;.

Has anyone grown pomegranates in Florida?
Hi:
You are in an ideal climate for Pomogranate trees. Florida has zones eight through ten and this is a wonderful climate for growing them. I live in zone seven and have a Pomogranate. Last year we had fruit but this year due to our drought, there wasn%26#039;t any. In my zone it is a deciduous tree but in Florida, especially central and southern, it is an evergreen. Pomegranates are fairly easy trees to take care of and add a little organic mushroom compost to your soil if you plant one. This is a great organic fertilizer that will last up to one year. Water regularing and you should have a healthy tree and it should also bear some good fruit for you.
Hope this has helped some and if you need any further information, please feel free to contact me at my website. I will link you to my site map as this page has everything that is on the website. Browse through and see if there is anything that may help you in planting your Pomegranates or any other landscape tips you may need. Good luck to you and have a great day!

Has anyone grown pomegranates in Florida?
It should do well in Florida the hardiness zone is good for fruit production.
Some zones can grow them but real fruiting isn%26#039;t good until zone 7 or 8.

When are pomegranates in season?
i need pomagranetes for desert for thanksgiving but looked for them in the store with no luck in finding them. if i cant find them do they sell them jared maybe? you never know now days help!
When are pomegranates in season?
Here in the mountain states we begin to see them in early october .at that time they are usually high price $2.50 each but now theyre $1.00 each so I dont think there is a shortage.
Ive seen them in several store here.
theyll be gone again in december.
I dont know why you dont have them yet,you should call your stores and ask about availability.
Ive never seen them canned or even frozen.
I know they make pomegranite juice but im guessing that wont help you. so good luck.
Reply:Well, here in Romania they can be bought...
Reply:I%26#039;ve noticed them in the grocery store just recently. The POM variety.
Reply:They are falling off my tree right now. Check with produce departments, I think the season may be coming to an end depending on what part of the world you%26#039;re in. I%26#039;ve never seen them preserved.
Reply:According to POM, the season for fresh pomegranate is October through January. So it seems you should be able to find fresh pomegranates. I recently bought several for $1 each at Wal-Mart... If I were you, I would get out the phone book and let my fingers do the walking. Call all the local groceries and talk to someone in produce. Even if they don%26#039;t have pomegranates on hand, they might be able to explain if there%26#039;s a shortage and what your other options might be (though I%26#039;ve personally never seen canned/jarred, it is possible).
A pomegranate dessert sounds delicious. Good luck on your quest!

Why are Pomegranates so hard to find? Where can I find them? Dallas area?
Pomegranates are not only offered in specialist stores and Indian stores...I buy them at Wal-Mart lol
But Pomegranates are hard to find because U.S. markets begin harvesting in October and wrap up by January...the season is too short...and that%26#039;s to bad because I LOVE them lol
But Pomegranate Juice is sold year-round
But when October hit you can try going to specialist stores and Indian/Chinese stores but I usually just get it at Wal-Mart Super Center!
Why are Pomegranates so hard to find? Where can I find them? Dallas area?
Because they are a largely imported fruit, and will usually only be available at specialist retailers
Reply:If you have an Indian (as in from India) grocery store, you may want to check it out, since that is a common Indian fruit, and more likely to available there. Or even any Chinese grocery stores.

Why are Pomegranates only sold in the fall?
that is when they are harvested and they spoil quickly
You can%26#039;t freeze or can them. However, press them through a sieve and extract the juice. Makes excellent wine, jelly or add to other fruit juices to make an exotic punch. Great for a party where you want to empress your guests.
Why are Pomegranates only sold in the fall?
fruit is seasonal
you can get more mainstream fruit out of season because of the demand (for more money of course), but there isn%26#039;t much demand for pomegranates
theyre good though

When should pomegranates be picked?
When they are ripe, I know. But how can I tell when they have ripened enough for picking?
When should pomegranates be picked?
The fruits are ripe when they have developed a distinctive color and make a metallic sound when tapped. The fruits must be picked before over maturity when they tend to crack open, particularly when rained on. The pomegranate is equal to the apple in having a long storage life. It is best maintained at a temperature of 32° to 41° F. and can be kept for a period of 7 months within this temperature range and at 80 to 85% relative humidity without shrinking or spoiling. The fruits improve in storage, becoming juicier and more flavorful.
Reply:They should be picked as soon as they start to be full sized (slightly smaller). Then, let them sit for four days outdoors. Finally, wash them with CLEAN water for fifteen minutes.

When are pomegranates in season in Malaysia?
Is there any season for this fruit-o or is it grown all year round?
When are pomegranates in season in Malaysia?
The pomegranate has gotten a lot of good press lately. It%26#039;s become known as a cancer-fighting wonder fruit and its popularity soared. You can now find it in everything from health- food drinks to martinis.
Pomegranates are particularly appealing to nutritionists because unlike most fruits, they become more potent when squeezed into a liquid.
It was known that pomgranates was 1st cultivated in Iran thousand years ago...
You can find these fruits from hypermarkets.
Choose pomegranates that have bright red skin and feel heavy. The larger the fruit, the better
developed and sweeter it will be. Pomegranates have a tough skin which gives them a long shelflife. It is not necessary to keep pomegranates in the refrigerator. If the fruit is unopened, it can be stored in a non-humid place.
Reply:I thought it is available all year round.
Reply:it is found all year round..you can find it at vegetables/fruits stall..
Reply:i dont know about the season, but u will not find this fruit in a normal fruit stall.go to supermarket or hypermarket to find it.u can find this tree in residental area where there is lot of chinese.normally i ll ask from them to pluck 1 or 2 fruits.

What do pomegranates taste like?
Okay, a couple of questions:
Can you eat the seeds?
Are they part of the berry family or what?
Are they in season right now to buy at the store?
What do pomegranates taste like?
it is soooo good! they are juicy and yes you can eat the seeds.
here is a site w/ all the info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomegranate
Reply:Yummy!
They kind of remind me of a cranberry, very tart and sweet.
I believe the seeds are what you eat.
Yes they are in season.
They are great w/a savory dish added to a sauce.
Reply:I know what the juice tastes like , it sells for $3.00 a bottle where I live but sometimes the kind that comes from Azerbajan can be a little less expensive. I love it, it is a little tart but not as tart as cranberry juice. Most companies sell it as a blend for that reason. The actual fruit itself I have never seen but going back thru history it is an important positive from of nutrition.
Reply:Pomegranates are great I love them, yes you can eat the seeds.
In season during the fall and winter months, Wonderful pomegranates are superb for eating, cooking and decorating. Mix them with other fruits or flowers to create a dramatic centerpiece, use them to bring life to salads, baked goods and main dishes, or just put them in a bowl by themselves. Their deep purple-red, glossy appearance and beautiful shape also make them a must-have for the holidays.
Reply:Pomegranates taste good to me but I%26#039;m not sure if you will like it. Yes you can eat the seeds, I%26#039;m not sure if they%26#039;re in the berry family and you can buy them anytime in a store.
Reply:awesome but they stain your clothes. we used to grow them
Reply:They taste like pomegranates! Basically the whole fruit is nothing but seeds. You can eat the hard part of the seed but it is bitter and hard to chew, we just mush the seeds around and get the juicy part off and spit out the white part.
Reply:sweet n tart
Reply:You cannot eat the seeds..you scrape the red flesh around it with your teeth, and spit the seed out. It is quite tart, usually, but not sour. They are in season in the U.S. from August-October depending on the heat of the growing region. I%26#039;m in the Rocky Mountains and my grocery store has them--it%26#039;s December. They also sell delicious pomegranate juice, Pom brand, I believe. I don%26#039;t know what fruit family they are in. I know they grow in Southern Calif., amongst other places.

Why are pomegranates so expensive?
where i live pomegranates are cheap and berries like blueberries and raspberries are expensive, even the frozen type , and it%26#039;s out of stock quickly .
if it%26#039;s local then it%26#039;s cheaper, make use of local fresh fruits rich in color and in season , it%26#039;s better for your health and wallet, try the farmer%26#039;s market.
eat pomegranates from time to time , meanwhile eat more local fresh fruits and veggies or get the frozen type. choose the ones with more color and eat a variety of colored fruits and veggies to get all the different antioxidants.

Pomegranates prevent wrinkles and make skin firmer. They are good for fatigue, appetite loss and indigestion and even improve menopausal symptoms such as facial flushing or dry mouth as its structure and functions are similar to plant estrogen. The best way to take pomegranates is to eat them whole including the seeds.

Well it certainly isn%26#039;t bad for you. I mean it does grow from a bush. So it must be natural and healthy...unless there is a messed up farmer who sprays pesticides thinking it keeps the bugs away.
If it grows on a bush/tree or whatever it must be good for you. I mean you don%26#039;t see trees growing ripe hamburgers or something.

Will pomegranates grow in zone 7, and how do I do it, starting from seeds?
I bought one just to try.
Will pomegranates grow in zone 7, and how do I do it, starting from seeds?
Hi:
I received a Pomegranate tree from a previous client. I live in zone seven and planted it in an open area. After two years in the ground, it has grown to about six feet high. A year ago we got blooms in the late spring and summer and late summer to fall we got a good amount of fruit. You have to wait until the fruit rippens or it is very bitter. The seeds are very nutrional.
If you plant from seed, read my article on my website on planting from seed. I will direct you to this page as well as my site map so you can browse through and get some other ideas and tips.
We live near the mountains, so Pomegranates can grow in zone seven if propagated properly and planted correctly. You can also receive blossoms and fruit, but it may take a couple of years.
Hope this has helped some and if you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to help you. Have a great day!

Even though this is for herb and flower growing, it is a base for doing any seeds.

Reply:Usually plants flower in zone 7 but will mature their fruit in zone 8. Plants will fruit in pots especially the dwarf varieties.
if you are wanting to grow for eating you might do well to order a dwarf than the time for growing from seed, because of you hardiness zone 7.

Are pomegranates the worse fruit ever .all that fiddling about?
I%26#039;d have to kind of agree. All that effort just for a bit of fruit. It tastes quite nice but for the work/taste ratio it%26#039;s a pretty poor fruit.
Are pomegranates the worse fruit ever .all that fiddling about?
I totally agree!! Pomegranates have got to be the worst!! All that faffing about getting it open and peeled, then there is the nit picking of the seeds, they dont particular taste nice, and they leave your mouth feeling dry!!! Maybe God was bored one day and thought he%26#039;d have a laugh!!! :o)
Reply:i read the other day that you actually scoop the contents out into a bowl of clean water and all the yummy bits come to the top and the yucky bits sink to the bottom. you scoop the seeds off the top and eat
Reply:Pomegranates may be quite a bit of work, but I feel so good after eating one that it%26#039;s worth the fight.
Reply:yes, rank right up there with persimmons..
Reply:You know, I was just thinking that myself! *wink*
Reply:I think they%26#039;re quite tasty! But, too much damn work!
Reply:If you can be bothered, they taste yummy.
Reply:Yes, pomegranates are one of the most fiddly fruit, they beat even mangos for fiddly and messy preparation.
However, the durian fruit is pretty terrible. It is a large and heavy fruit weighing several pounds and covered in large thorny spikes. You need a cleaver or hammer and chisel to open it and when you do you are faced with slimy flesh with a texture likened to a cow pat by some and custard by others. The smell is overpowering likened to gas or sewage - however people in malaysia consider it a delicacy with the flesh being described as %26#039;rich, with an almond-sweet flavor and puddinglike texture%26#039; People either love it or hate it but it%26#039;s a pain to transport and to prepare. I like it but it%26#039;s best sweetened and preserved - by somebody else!
The link below is amusing as it describes the lengths someone had to go through to try some durian fruit.
Reply:Yes -yes - yes! And now I%26#039;ve pricked myself with the pin trying to type simultaneously!!

Do Pomegranates grow well in the San Francisco Peninsula?
Where%26#039;s the best place to buy the plant?
Do Pomegranates grow well in the San Francisco Peninsula?
your mild, wet, almost frost less winters and cool summers with frequent fog are not the best place to grow a pomegranate for fruit. it will grow %26amp; bloom, but may not fruit. locate against a south or west wall. if it%26#039;s just the look of the plant and it%26#039;s showy flowers you are after, try the non-fruiting, ornamental varirties, PUNICA granatum.
Reply:Yes, they sure do! Plant in a sunny area, the best plnce to purchase one is at a nursery but the %26quot;marts%26quot; (K-, Wal,Target) usually carry the pomegranate tree. Best varity to grow in California is the %26#039;Wonderful%26#039; or %26#039;Ruby%26#039;. Welcome to the wonderful world of the pomegranate!

Are pomegranates an aphrodisiac?
History of the Pomegranate
As befits a fruit with many seeds, the pomegranate is the traditional representation of fertility, and seems to have its origins everywhere. We see it in the Middle East and India. The pomegranate was cultivated in Egypt before the time of Moses. It was found in the Indus valley so early that there is a word in Sanskrit for pomegranate. Indian royalty began their banquets with pomegranate, grape, and jujube. Arab caravans, many emanating from the lush oasis that was ancient Baghdad, probably spread its use.
The pomegranate is significant in Jewish custom. Tradition holds that a pomegranate has 613 seeds to represent the 613 commandments in the Torah. The design of the pomegranate was woven into the high priest%26#039;s robes, and brass representations were part of the Temple%26#039;s pillars. It is mentioned six times inch Song of Solomon. We see the pomegranate again in ancient Greece and Rome. In the verses of the Odyssey, Homer mentions it as part of the gardens of Alcinous (probably in Sicily). The Romans imported their pomegranates from African Libya, and Pliny the Elder gave instructions for its storage. Lest the pomegranate be neglected in the East, it appears in China during the Han and Sung dynasties. The derivation of the word pomegranate comes from the Middle French pome garnete (seeded apple), but Europeans were slow to adopt the pomegranate. The pomegranate was probably introduced from Sicily, however Europeans, then under Norman influence, distrusted fruits and vegetables, preferring a meat-based diet. It is mentioned in the 14th century Ménagier de Paris which offered some recipes, and as we see in the quote from Romeo and Juliet it was known in England in Elizabethan times. The enthusiasm for pomegranate as a food was limited, but it was widely used as a decoration.
The Spanish Conquistadores brought the pomegranate to America. Jesuit missionaries carried it north to their missions in California. They were found growing wild in Georgia in 1772.
