What type of fruit was the forbidden fruit?

In the Book of Genesis, it's written that Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden. It does not say it was an apple. Was it an apple or some other kind of fruit? Judaism teaches that the fruit may have been grapes, figs, wheat, or citrons. Some researchers have said it was a pomegranate. Could the "forbidden fruit" have meant something other than an actual fruit or one that is no longer around today?

What type of fruit was the forbidden fruit?
nobody knows for sure. I think the whole story was a metaphor, because if there was a real tree of knowledge out there, then that would mean there was also a real tree of life (there were two trees---God barred them from the tree of life after they ate from the tree of knowledge) which would mean that there is still potentially a fruit out there that could literally induce immortality. I think that's unlikely.
Reply:Ignore religion. Historical references indicate that it was a pomegranate. Scientific discoveries indicate that Adam %26amp; Eve never existed, so whatever fruit you choose, take it with a grain of salt.
Reply:It is just a symbolic tale, meaning that men would acquire knowledge, lose their innocence because of that, and would be able to distinguish between good and evil.

The kind of "fruit" is irrelevant.

That was the beginning of the concept of "sin".
Reply:As the Bible does not say there is no way to know. In my opinion I think it is likely a type of fruit no longer in existence.
Reply:We are not told what type of fruit it was. In fact, it doesn't matter what species it was, the important thing is that it was forbidden by God for those people to eat it.
Reply:The kind of fruit is not specified. to guess would be adding to what the scriptures give is.

My bad side wants to tel you that it was a Dingleberry!
Reply:Other than any actual fruit-have you ever come across a "fruit of knowledge" at your local store?
Reply:It's whatever you want it to be, dear - just like a hooker's name. That's the beauty of fantasy!

The tradition that it may have been a fig was due to the fact that the fig was traditionally connected with sexuality. (See, e.g., the "Song of Songs" 2:13.) And, of course, in Hebrew, "Knowledge" was a euphemism for sexuality, as when it is said that Adam "knew" his wife Eve. The "Original Sin" was their original sexual awakening - "and they saw that they were naked." Again, they are often depicted covering their "shame" with fig leaves.
Reply:It was actually a virus program.
Reply:The forbidden fruit the world continues to eat is the "false doctrine of a combination of righteousness and evil".
Reply:Is that a gay joke?
Reply:it was a fruit that provided the knowledge of good and evil. what else do u need to know? the bible provides no further answers than the fact that it was a fruit.
Reply:I researched this once.

and it is the QUINCE...
Reply:I heard Adam had a date with Eve... true??

LOL.

Peace be with you.
Reply:Read the passage of this beautiful myth carefully. The answer is there: knowledge of good and evil -- that is the fruit. It is a metaphor for understanding life. The consequences of knowledge are responsibility and the pain of knowing, i.e., the story is a metaphor for humanity's growth into adolescence, its loss of its infantile, animal-like innocence and ignorance of itself and its reality.
Reply:A banana.
Reply:I have heard that it was a hallucinogen. The forbidden fruit is what God told man not to eat of. So when you disobey God you learn that this is evil. The act itself is evil. Called rebellion.

Also, the Pastor recently preached that this tree was a type of tithe. Set apart to not eat of. 1/10 of the total fruit trees.

The sin nature we inherit is to rebel against Gods Word. Showing when we learn to say "No!" to mom.

I would liken this tree to mind altering drugs, hallucinogens, alcohol, etc... It is the dangerous/deadly things we aren't suppose to eat of. Well, the moment Adam %26amp; Eve were denied the 'Tree of life' they died spiritually. Following this within an age, they died physically. The soul went where God put their soul.

Reply:There was one Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. We have no indication that there were ever any more of the same variety. The scriptures say that it was the particular fruit of The Tree of Knowledge. Therefore, I do not think it was one of the varieties we commonly know. It is so easy to try to make a metaphor out of the story and make some deep interpretation out of it. I think it is easier to take the story as told at face value.
Reply:Since none of us were actually there then I'd have to say that the possibility exists that the fruit could have been just about any fruit found on earth, but if I had to guess then I'd have to say the fruit on that particular tree isn't found anywhere on this planet of ours or people would still be learning stuff when they ate it. Just like the tree of life would have some other form of fruit on it. Just my opinion though.
Reply:It is likely to be a fig!
Reply:I belive you have answered your own question quite well.
Reply:To the best of my knowledge the tree was the the evil one and its fruit was his spirit which entwined itself into the souls of man . The spirit of sin and lawlessness.

Deuteronomy strictly forbids divination, sorcery, witchcraft, etc....
Reply:Well....according to the bible, I would consider it an "APPLE." For this reason, it contained both knowledge of good and evil; therefore, this forbidden fruit give individuals to think and have free expression without any regards. However, mankind has paid a heavy price because of this very fruit; therefore, it reflects on how we live in this society regarding how we CONFORM!!!!!!
Reply:I think they did 69.
Reply:read further in the bible..it eventually tells you it was an apple
Reply:I don't think the bible is specific, but why does it really matter the point isn't "what kind" of fruit it's about the story of why they shouldn't have taken it.
Reply:The tree may be referring to Adam and Eve IE: the first Family tree. Now before that old serpent called the devil had made it known to Eve that upon taking the seed of man orally she would be wise like unto YHWH. I know it sounds sick doesn't it. that is why it is written so mysteriously.

Everyone would get offended if they read this.

So in other words, it was probably the first oral sex in history.

Which made the man weak thereby succumbing to the wishes of his wife, which that old serpent knew was out of order with the plan of creation.

This seems to be a recurring phenomenon.

Of course this is pure speculation so please don't be offended.
Reply:some think it was an apple others think it could have been a mango
Reply:They ate of the fruit of satan's lie's .Satan know's good but is evil. And yes his evil spirit is here today with lie's .The fruit is something like fruit of the womb.Read Gen.3:15 GOD is talking to the serpent (And I will put enimity between thee and the woman ,and between THY (satan's )seed and her seed (Eve )it shall bruise thy head .(And we will)and thou shall bruise His heel ( JESUUS CHRIST ) And they did on the cross .Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said ,I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy Conception.Eve had twins Cain and Abel.We know what happened here.Read Matt 13 :24 -40 . Matt. 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil. PEACE TO YOU AND TRUTH Also Gen 3:7 The eye's of them both were open and they knew they were naked they sewed Fig LEAVE'S and made napkin's to cover their mouth 's from eating fruit .And made themselves apron's .What does an apron cover shame at what had been done in the fig grove ..Mark 13:28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree.Let your's eye's be opened.
Reply:It has been interpreted to be the Apple for centuries. A male's "Adams apple" was coined from this. While different religions have different views, this general definition has been used for 100's of years. In the end there is no right or wrong answer, believe whatever your particular Religion dictates.
